James Law's Technosphere

The Technosphere is a mixed-use building providing office and residential space as well as a hotel and public courtyards. This living, breathing building operates in a similar fashion to the Earth itself, providing energy, recycling water, and providing sustenance to its occupants. The exterior forms a shell around the interior spaces and will house solar panels for electricity generation. Inside, sky gardens act to shield the interior spaces from the sun and filter the air to contribute fresh oxygen to the indoor environment. Water will be recycled and efficiently used.

James Law, chief Cybertect of the project, is known for his work in ‘cybertecture‘, which is a combination of advanced technologies, architecture, and multimedia experiences for users. This new design, the Technosphere, was presented at the UltraFuture Conference in 2008, during which the Future of the Built Environment was explored.

Shipping Container Health Clinics For Developing Countries

Good design has the potential to provide better education, access to safe water and improved health care. Take for instance Emily Pilloton of Project .H. Design, whose design projects are bringing vast improvements to their surrounding communities. Along the same line, a new non-profit initiative called Containers to Clinics is creating modular health care clinics for developing countries. To do so, they are rescuing shipping containers and then outfitting them with all the necessary equipment to treat women and children. Not only is this company delving into the fascinating world of Shiping Containers Architecture, but they are developing a much needed service for humanitarian aid.

Unusual and Creative Staircase Designs

Creative “floating” stairs designed by Florence architect Guido Ciompi for The Gray Hotel in Milan, Italy. Creative stairs at the Longchamp Store in New York City. Visitors to the Piedra de Penol in MedellĂn, Colombia, had best be prepared for quite a workout on their way up. There’s no elevator available in this amazing combination of natural and man-made wonders. 649 stairs lead to the top of this 200-meter-tall granite batholith, but the view once you get there is said to be worth the extraordinary effort required. World's Biggest Airport,Beijing

Another spectacular new piece of Beijing architecture, the Feng Shui compliant Terminal 3 is the creation of Britain's Norman Foster. With Chinese red columns and a muted gold roof it evokes traditional Chinese colors in a modern design. Looking at the airport from above, with raised scales on its back and long body it looks like a flying dragon, especially with free drinks on the flight over. The terminal is oriented North-South to help incoming passengers get oriented and a system of skylights face southeast to maximize sunshine.
